Have a happy Valentine’s Day!
I mean it. Every year, I hear complaints about how marketing for Valentine’s Day makes most Americans unhappy. Yes, many of the Valentine’s gifts in stores are ugly or contribute to poor social conditions. Yes, not everyone is involved in an exciting romance. That doesn’t mean Valentine’s Day is a bad holiday.
Even if you aren’t in the target audience for most Valentine’s Day marketing (young lovers or lusty pretenders), the day is for you. February 14 offers a good excuse to recognize everyone you love.
Call your family and hang out with friends. Buy yourself flowers if no one else does. (You too, men!) I recommend you ask for sustainably grown cut flowers or something potted and easy to maintain if you buy flowers.
Whatever you do, have fun and bask in the warmth of expressed affection.
